Process
Here are the steps you will follow to get to know your animals better and become an expert.
Step 1
First, we will read the story in class. Then, we will discuss the story. After the dicussion, you'll be separated into partners assigned by the Speech Language teacher.

Step 2
You and your partner need to choose two animals: one animal from "The Mitten" and one animal from the "The Umbrella".

Step 3
Once you and your partner choose two animals, your Speech Language Teacher will give you a worksheet. Try to answer as many of the following questions:
Where is your animal's habitat?
How are the two animals the same?
How are the two animals different?
Tell about the physical characteristics of your animal?
What does your animal eat?
Is the animal on an endangered list?
Step 4
You and your partner will research to find the answers to the questions by clicking on the animal you chose below. Once you click on the animal, you will try to find information about your animals. There other websites you can visit below the pictures for additional research.

Step 5
You and your partner will read the information together. After you read the information, look at your questions and see if you can answer your questions. If you and your partner need help ask other students. If you still need help,ask the Speech Language Teacher.
Step 6
When you know the answer to a question, write your answer on the questionnaire sheet. Remember to write a complete sentence with capitalizations and periods.
Step 7
When you and your partner are finished, give the completed sheet to the Speech Language teacher. The Speech Language teacher will review your answers with you. Then, the sheet will be returned to for the next activity.
Step 8
Next, you and your partner will compare and contrast the animals you chose using a Venn diagram. You will get a blank Venn diagram to complete from your Speech Language teacher. Use the the information you obtained from your question sheet as a guide to complete the Venn diagram. Submit the Venn diagram to the Speech Language teacher. The Speech Language will review your answer with you. There will be a group discussion on the Venn diagrams in class.
Step 9
Lastly, you will create a brief oral presentation on your animals using a mini fact book. You will choose one of the two animals. Decide with your partner who will do which animal. You will create a mini fact book on the animal choose. The Speech Language Teacher will go over the directions in putting a mini book together in class. Use the questions listed above in Step 3 as a guide when you create your mini fact book, which will be your presentation.
